Update Verizon Firmware by 07/15/2007 to avoid EVDO service interruption
Verizon Wireless is sending out a large postcard to existing customers letting them know that if they don't upgrade the firmware of specific EVDO devices, their service may stop working on 07/15/2007. This affects the following devices:
For more information see: http://support.vzw.com/how_to_use/bba_device_update.html To update firmware on these devices, Verizon has released software for Windows 2000 / XP that will upgrade your firmware - just follow the steps at the link above.
Anyone that is a Mac only customer (example, using the KPC650 on a PowerBook), or perhaps using the KPC650 in a Kyocera KR1 EVDO Router, will need to find a Windows 2000/XP laptop to do the upgrade. Even though Verizon supports Macs with a native VZAccess Manager - they are not providing a way for Mac only customers to install the firmware update. To prevent our customers from a loss of service, 3Gstore.com (formerly Booster-Antenna.com) is announcing a mail-in firmware upgrade for their existing customers. If you are an existing 3gstore.com customer without access to a Windows 2000/XP computer to do the firmware update, you can follow these steps:
BTW, if your purchased your KPC650 AND it came with a Mac CD or a label on the front of the box that mentioned that Mac was supported - YOU ALREADY have the firmware upgrade. Verizon added KPC650 Mac support in August 2005 and a few months after that, started having the Mac CDs included.
