NEW YORK, June 13 - Sprint Nextel Corp the No. 3 U.S. mobile phone service, said on Wednesday it would buy affiliate privately held Northern PCS Services LLC for $312.5 million, including debt. Sprint, which has already bought several affiliates to overcome contract disputes that arose after its purchase of Nextel Communications, said the deal is expected to close in the third quarter, subject to regulatory approval. Northern PCS has about 240 employees and had 2006 revenue of about $130 million
This move is good for Sprint, as it removes some of the activation issues that are present in different affiliates. Some of the affiliate markets were harder for Sprint to control when it comes to EVDO rollouts - so this is also a good move. |
