EVDO is hot! Apple provided support for the PC 5220 EVDO card, however, Verizon is only pushing the Novatel V620 these days and the PC 5220 isn't available. This article will descibe how to get the Novatel V620 to work with your PowerBook. July 1, 2005 UPDATE We now have a NEW SIMPLE INSTALLER for Mac OS X that installs a new Novatel V620 driver. It is MUCH easier than the directions on this page. HOWEVER, it only works on 10.3 (NOT Tiger), and doesn't work reliably, the steps below WORK. NOTE: These are instructions are for advanced users who know what they are doing only! These directions work under Mac OS 10.3.5 - 10.4.2. We will perform these steps remotely on your PowerBook if you purchase your Novatel V620 card from us. For those that purchase the Novatel v620 from our sister site (Booster-Antenna.com, we can do the steps below, for you remotely at no charge. ALSO, the card must first be activated on a Windows PC! If you are purchasing the Novatel V620 from us, there is an option to select "Mac User - Preactivate", select this and the card will come ready to use. For users not comfortable following these technical steps, we have an installer that you can download (must register to download it). The installer basically performs all the steps for you on this page...automatically. According to this EVDO Forum Message, the installer works fine with Tiger / Mac OS X 10.4. You can also support EVDOinfo.com & EVDOforums.com, by purchasing your Booster Antenna's from Booster-Antenna.com or even your Novatel V620 (or others) and Verizon BroadBandAccess service. We can get you the Novatel V620 for $19.99 (after $100 rebate), the same deal costs you $30 more if you buy directly from VerizonWireless.com. There is an option for Mac Users to have your Novatel V620 activated on a Windows laptop before sending to you. Also, we have the external booster antenna for the Novatel V620.
Congratulations, your Novatel V620 is now working in your PowerBook! Based on the hard work of a handful of people, we were able to get the Novatel V620 working with PowerBooks under Mac OS X. You can read the EVDO Forums Thread that shows you how we got it working. |
