Now that you have selected your Verizon phone or PDA , it's time to select your calling plan and the features that you need. There are a LOT of different options, and it can get a little confusing. What is included in each plan? Do I have to pay extra for text messaging? What if I want to use my phone as a modem?

First, did you select a PHONE or a PDA/Blackberry? If you're not sure which category your choice falls under, check out our lists of available phones and PDAs to make sure.

If you selected a PHONE, these are your options (for PDAs, scroll down to create your plan):

Phone plans step 1: Select your VOICE plan.

There are 3 options when selecting your voice plan: Basic, Select, and Premium.

This plan is best for: If you plan on using your phone mainly for making and receiving calls and don't need data or messaging, a BASIC plan is the simple, affordable choice for you.

SELECT calling plan: With a SELECT plan, you will receive the voice minutes AND enjoy unlimited messaging with ANYONE on ANY network! VCast is not included in these plans, so you will either pay per megabyte OR you can add the feature in Step 3.

This plan is best for: For people that need voice minutes and love to text, a SELECT plan is right for you.

PREMIUM calling plan: These plans include everything you need for the full multimedia experience: voice minutes, unlimited messaging, mobile email, VZ Navigator, and the VCast Vpack and Mobile Web 2.0

This plan is best for: Want to use your phone to its fullest potential? Get a Premium plan!

Once you've decided which plan is right for you, it's time to decide which features you want to add.

Phone plans step 2: Select your MESSAGING plan.

Messaging options for BASIC plan users. You DO NOT need to select a messaging plan if you are going to sign up for a SELECT or PREMIUM plan, as unlimited messaging is included!

Phone plans step 3: VCast is your portal to multimedia downloads, games, and streaming media like TV and video and gives you access to Mobile Web 2.0. If you want to email, check sports scores, surf the internet, and access multimedia applications, make sure to select a plan! If you chose a SELECT calling plan in Step 1, you don't need to add anything here - it's already included for you.

Phone plans step 4: Do you need extra protection for your phone? Most phone manufacturers offer a limited warranty, but those only cover problems/defects with the phone - if you drop your phone, lose it, or it is stolen, they will not replace it.

Phone plans step 5: A few more optional features. You are not required to select any of these options.

Phone plans step 6 - the final step!!: If you would like to use your phone as a modem - AKA "tethering" - the cost is $59.99 per month. Unlike when you sign up for EVDO service with a dedicated device like a USB modem or ExpressCard, you are NOT locked into paying $59.99/month for the duration of your contract. This is a feature that you can add and remove (at no charge) to your plan as you need it! This is a great option for people that would like to have mobile broadband access occassionally but won't be using it often enough to necessitate the purchase of a dedicated modem and service. Simply call us to add the feature, then call to remove it when you no longer need it - and only pay for the days the feature is active.

Please note: Not every PDA is tether-capable! If you know that you need this feature, make sure that you check the listed features on the phone you selected.
