Midwest Wireless rolled out EVDO high-speed wireless services to Minnesota county of Olmsted, marking the carrier's first foray into commercial EV-DO services. The company is mainly focusing its efforts on the community of Rochester because of its density and high number of tech-savvy individuals. Because the service is only being offered in Olmsted County, Midwest Wireless says customers automatically will be transitioned to its 1X-RTT network when outside the EV-DO service area. Midwest Wireless says the new service is accessible to subscribers of its 25 MB data plan offered at $24.95 a month and its unlimited data plan of $79.95 a month. Initially, the EV-DO service will only be available on the Audiovox PPC-6600 smartphone, but Midwest Wireless says it plans to add additional handsets to the mix in the coming months. |
