TELUS Mobility delivers first EVDO-capable wireless network card for portable PCs Sierra Wireless AirCard� 580 offers fast mobile access to e-mail and Internet applications Scarborough, ON and Vancouver, BC, May 4, 2005 - TELUS Mobility and Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR - TSX: SW) today announced the availability of the Sierra Wireless AirCard� 580 wireless wide-area network card, the first in Canada capable of operating on high-speed EVDO networks. "TELUS Mobility is committed to providing our clients with mobile data solutions like the Sierra Wireless AirCard 580 that offer fast, secure and convenient access to e-mail, the Internet, and corporate networks and applications," said Robert Blumenthal, Vice President, Products and Services at TELUS Mobility. "And with its easy EVDO upgradeability, the AirCard 580 is also an investment in the future of high-speed wireless." Operating on TELUS Mobility's national 1X wireless voice and data network, the AirCard 580 also offers forward compatibility with TELUS Mobility's EVDO service through a simple software upgrade. EVDO (for Evolution, Data Optimized) is next-generation wireless network technology that offers data transfer speeds of approximately 400 kilobits per second, at least six times faster than current wireless data speeds. TELUS Mobility plans to introduce EVDO service in selected markets across Canada in the first quarter of 2006. A followup to the popular Sierra Wireless AirCard 555 offered by TELUS Mobility since 2002, the AirCard 580 fits a standard Type II PC Card slot on portable computing devices. It offers improved reception, thanks to its flip-up, vertically polarized antenna, and lower battery consumption.
