Cradlepoint MBR1200 WMM Workaround

The recently released Cradlepoint MBR1200 has been found to suffer from an issue that can prevent certain devices from being able to connect over WiFi.

The MBR1200's "WiFi MultiMedia" (aka WMM) feature improves the quality of WiFi connections of certain voice, audio, and video applications.

Enabling this feature on MBR1200 with firmware 1.6.3 has been found to deny WiFi connections from certain models of the iPhone and iPod Touch, and even some other mobile devices with WiFi capability like some models of BlackBerry phones.

After much research by the mobile broadband experts in 3Gstore's Tech Support department, a workaround has been identified that will fix the allow the devices to connect via WiFi, but restricts WiFi bandwidth to a maximum of 54mb/s.

To workaround the problem, follow these steps.
 
  1.  
    1. On a computer that is connected to the MBR1200, open a web browser (IE, Firefox, or Safari) and navigate to router web admin main page (typically located at http://192.168.0.1)
    2. Log in using the admin password. By default this is usually the last 6 characters of your router's MAC address, found on a label underneath the router.
      Once logged in you will be presented with a page that has a row of tabs across the top in a red stripe with the Cradlepoint logo just above it.
    3. Click on the Advanced tab. On the left you will be presented with a column of different links.
    4. Click on the link entitled Wireless(WIFI) (For some firmware revisions this will be listed as Advanced Wireless)
    5. Uncheck WMM Enable and then Click on Save Settings at the top of the page. Reboot the router if prompted to do so.

Please note this information is provided as a "workaround".

Cradlepoint has confirmed the next firmware should provide a proper/permanent solution.
