EVDO Rev A - current EVDO Cards compatible?

Thursday, 02 June 2005
Question: I have been hearing that something new called EVDO Rev A is coming and that it is faster. If I purchase a current broadband card, will it work with EVDO Rev A, or will I need to purchase a new broadband card?

Answer: EVDO Rev A is backward compatible with EVDO Rev 0 (the current one Verizon and Sprint use), so, existing Broadband Cards will continue to work when EVDO Rev A is rolled out. You will need a NEW EVDO Card (phone/usb modem/etc) in order to get EVDO Rev A speeds. Qualcomm released a entirely new chipset to support this. Current EVDO is a different chipset.
