With SMS, Mobile Web Use at All-Time Highs, Affordable Sprint Plans with Unlimited Messaging and Data Can Save Customers Nearly $240 Per Year over New Verizon Plans

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Jan 15, 2010 -- Grandparents texting, moms and dads downloading apps, kids surfing the mobile Web for school research - these days it seems everyone uses their wireless phones for much more than talking. As more and more wireless users send messages, Tweet and access the Internet on their phones, pricing plans that offer more than just voice minutes are the best bet to keep the monthly bill in check. Sprint (NYSE: S) has the answer, with affordable Everything Data plans that offer the best value with unlimited messaging and data included for one low price.

Sprint Everything Data plans offer a savings of nearly $240 per year vs. Verizon's new Nationwide Talk & Text plans plus unlimited data package.1 Families can save nearly $600 per year on unlimited messaging and data with Sprint Everything Data Family plans vs. Verizon's new Nationwide Talk & Text Family SharePlans plus unlimited data package.2 Everything Data plans include Any Mobile, Anytime for unlimited calling while on the Sprint network to and from any U.S. wireless user regardless of carrier, plus unlimited text, picture and video messaging, e-mail, Web browsing and exclusive data services, such as Sprint Navigation and NFL Mobile Live.

Text messaging traffic nearly doubled from 2008 to 2009, with 135.2 billion text messages sent and received in June 2009, compared to 75 billion a year earlier.3 Picture and multimedia messages have more than doubled, from 4.7 billion in June 2008 to 10.3 billion in June 2009.4 And mobile Internet usage has increased by almost one-half in the past two years, with 35 percent of Americans reporting they used the Internet on a mobile phone in a December 2009 survey, compared to 24 percent in December 2007.5

"With text and data usage on the rise, consumers can stretch their wireless dollars by choosing a pricing plan that builds in unlimited use of these features," said Bill Ho, research director at Current Analysis. "Sprint Everything Data plans fit the bill by complementing voice minutes with the value of unlimited messaging and data for one price without the worry of any data overage fees."

"Our affordable Everything Data plans offer some of the best values for the growing number of wireless users who want to do more with their phones than just talk," said Bob H. Johnson, president of CDMA, Sprint. "Whether they want to text, Tweet, check their social networks or catch up on work e-mail, they can do it all on Sprint phones without worrying about the bill."

To find the Sprint plan that best fits their needs, customers can use the Sprint Plan Optimizer, available by logging into their My Sprint account at www.sprint.com. The Sprint Plan Optimizer analyzes the customer's past wireless usage and recommends the best plan based on that usage. Existing customers can switch Sprint plans at any time without extending their contract. New activations require a two-year service agreement.
