Google Voice was an anticipated feature by a lot of anxious users. The reason it's popular for mobile users is because Google Voice allows you to send and receive free SMS messages rather than paying your carrier more money. When setting up your Google Voice account you'll even get to pick a number that you'll use for sending/receiving as well as forwarding calls.
