Upgrading Your EVO 4G To Android 2.2

HTC & Sprint have released the latest version of Android 2.2 as a software update for the HTC EVO 4G. This latest version of Android offers many new features and is definitely worth installing - and it's very easy to install!

New Features in Android 2.2:

  • Significant Performance improvements
  • Ability to share applications
  • Display events and birthdays from Facebook on Calendar
  • Use camera LED as flashlight
  • New user interface for the FM radio
  • Add unknown users in Facebook as friends in Friend Stream
  • Photo Gallery supports Facebook comments function
  • Send contact as vCard using SMS
  • Addition of MMS slideshow editor
  • New pre-loaded widgets including Calculator, FM radio, Message list view, Profile settings and Ringtone settings
  • Camcorder can use camera flash so video can be shot at night or in low light
  • Flash 10.1 support
  • Numeric PIN and alpha-numeric passwords to unlock screen
  • Search widget and search bar able to switch to search in different types (web, specific application, or all)
  • Adjustable alarm volume
  • Android Market widget allows installation of applications on SD card

To download the 84.34 MB Android 2.2 update on the EVO 4G, go to Settings > System Updates > HTC Software Update, then select the “Check Now” option to check for the Android 2.2 update.

You will be prompted with the Android 2.2 update notification and to select which network you wish to use to download the update. If WiFi is available, we recommend selecting the WiFi-only option, as it will likely download faster than using 3G or 4G (depending on your connection, of course).

Once you hit "OK", the update will begin downloading. While the update is downloading, it is VERY important that you do NOT try to power off your phone! We recommend performing the update while your charger is connected to ensure that you have sufficient battery power to complete the update (the amount of time it will take to download will vary depending on your connection - the entire download and installation process should take 10-20 minutes). Once the download is complete, your phone will restart and the update will be installed!
