Sharing Internet Connection on a Cruise Ship with Pepwave Surf Mini
If you have ever been on a cruise ship and you need to stay connected with the internet, you will quickly find out two things. It is very expensive (.40¢ - $1 per minute) and if you have more then one device (computer, iPad, iPod Touch, laptop, phone, etc), you can only have one device connected to the internet at a time. While we cannot solve the expense, we can show you how to solve the sharing of the internet while only paying one fee to the cruise ship. Using the Pepwave Surf Mini, you can grab the wireless or wired connection that is in most ships (and even in many staterooms) and rebroadcast your own WiFi network that all your devices can share. On a recent Princess Cruise tour in Alaska, we were able to share a MacBook Pro, iPad, iPod Touch and BlackBerry all grabbing emails and surfing at the same time.
Please
remember that you are paying per minute. Even if your last device is
turned off the Pepwave Surf Mini is still connected and you will be charged.
Please check the internet instructions that are presented for using
mobile devices so that you are not billed. For Princess ships, before
turning off your last device, you need to enter http://1.1.1.1 in your browser and wait for the successful disconnect message. Once, you see
the successful disconnect message or summary of minutes used, you can
turn off your last device and unplug the Surf Mini.
