Verizon Wireless 3G Users Getting (.97) Private AddressOver the last month Verizon has suffered several 4G LTE outages and we've received reports of odd issues occuring on the existing 3G network. Customers had been reporting (.97) IP addresses that Verizon hasn't used in the past and eliminates the ability to access your equipment remotely. After receiving another report of this issue today we took a look at some of our active 3G devices and found the same thing customers were describing. In the video below you'll see exactly what is going on with the Verizon 3G network:
Verizon 3G Network Assigning Private (.97) IP Range:
When Verizon initially launched the 4G LTE network we were quick to inform users of the limitations with remote based applications. Until now this issue was only related to newer 3G/4G modems and the eHRPD protocol, but now appears to be affecting 3G only modem users. Users on our EVDOForums are reporting the same symptoms we've been hearing about and could mean the end for customers that use Verizon 3G modems for remote based activities. If you have your equipment in a remote location, use DVR's or IP Cameras and can't access your equipment you'll likely find your equipment being given a (.97) address. If this continues users that use this for remote applications like IP Cameras will need to either purchase a static IP or a CloudCam to view their cameras off the local network. We've reached out to Verizon to find out what exactly is going on with this new 3G IP range and if it will continue.
