WARNING! Don't Update Your MiFi 4510L with a Mac
We’ve been seeing a lot of posts on our forums lately regarding the firmware upgrade for Verizon MiFi 4510L. Specifically, the 2.23 version of firmware. Users are reporting that when upgrading the firmware with a Mac computer, it prevents the MiFi from working properly. You can still connect to the MiFi, but access to the internet is not possible.
What makes matters worse is that Verizon is not even alerting customers of the issue. It also seems as though they may not be aware of the problem themselves. Just see what one user posted, “After more than an hour on the phone (most of that on hold), they decided that this needs to be escalated to Network Support...they say could take 2-3 days to resolve.”
The only solution users have found is upgrading the firmware on a Windows computer instead. Here is what one user posted, “I fixed mine!!! I had originally installed the update on the Mac. I then tried it this morning with the Windows firmware update and everything is working again!!!!”
However, another warns, “A note to anyone who did the Mac update: The windows will only install on a 2.16 unit, NOT one updated on the Mac.” Another user reports that the upgrade requires you connect the MiFi to your computer via USB, saying, “Update in 2.16 is grayed out because you can't do an "over the air" upgrade. However this is one of the features of the 2.23 firmware.”
Just another warning from your friends at 3Gstore to stay up to date with tech news! To read more on what other users are reporting, read the thread on EVDO Forums: 2.23 Firmware Update for MiFi 4510L
