T-Mobile starts to lay off employees from MetroPCS deal
Earlier this week T-Mobile announced that their deal to acquire MetroPCS
ended up receiving tacit approval from the Department of Justice. After
this announcement they immediately followed with a statement in which a
significant number of employees will be laid off because of the
acquisition. Upon this news the Seattle Times
notes that the layoffs are already happening with roughly 100 employees
set to be let go at meetings today. As the deal moves forward most
duplicate positions will be purged and more T-Mobile employees will lose
their jobs. There is no estimate on total job cuts, but last year
T-Mobile cut 4,200 jobs including 3,300 from call centers and later 900
more from across the company.
