Single Outlet Remote Power IP Switch Hands On Review

Now available from 3Gstore, the Single Outlet Remote Power Switch is an easy-to-use device that will monitor internet connectivity and automatically power-cycle critical equipment when an outage is detected. The uses for the Remote Power Switch are endless, including remotely rebooting routers, automatically resetting equipment on a schedule, keeping an internet connection from going dormant, monitoring connectivity, and doing away with the cost of sending a technician into the field to perform a simple hardware power cycle. Time and money are important to any home or business, and the Remote Power Switch will save you both! Below you’ll find an overview video of the Remote Power Switch, or feel free to read on for more in depth information:

Single Outlet Remote Power Switch Video Overview

Who and what is the IP Switch useful for?
  • Home or office users who have to manually power-cycle their router to re-gain internet connectivity
  • Parents - turn off the TV or game consoles when your children should be studying
  • IT Professionals who need to automatically or remotely reset devices via LAN/WAN pings
  • Having devices on an automatic power schedule (example: turn on at 9am & turn off at 5pm); Scheduling ensures compliance for scheduled maintenance
  • Preventing your Internet connection from timing out or going dormant
  • Remote deployments - save money by power cycling equipment instead of sending out an expensive tech
  • Professional audio/video installations
  • Home automation projects
  • Covert surveillance where techs can’t service equipment after installed

Design:

The Single Outlet Remote Power Switch is a compact device, measuring in at just 3.74” x 3.3” x 2.2”. This means that even in cramped kiosks and POS terminals, the Remote Power Switch wont be in the way of other equipment. The solid black design and well-placed Ethernet port and power adapters mean it will look good in any environment, from homes to businesses to M2M deployments. The single outlet can power and manage one device, or you can connect a surge protector to it to control power to multiple devices at once (when used this way, all of the devices connected to the surge protector will be turned on/off at the same time).

Features:

Smartphone Application: The Single Outlet Remote Power Switch can be both monitored and controlled from anywhere in the world with an Android or iOS device and an active internet connection. A single Remote Power Switch can be linked to up to 4 Android/iOS devices using the free app, giving users total control from all of their mobile devices. This means multiple users can manage the same switch so you don’t have to depend on your IT admin to monitor devices 24/7 - another administrator can also have access to remotely control them, or look and see what equipment is online or offline. Although there’s a limit on how many Android/iOS devices can control to a single switch (up to 4), there is no limit to how many Remote Power Switches you can control from the app (for example, if your business has 50 switches deployed in the field, you can control all of them from the free app).

Single Outlet Remote Power Switch Mobile Application Walkthrough

The mobile app also provides the following features and controls:

  • Manually control the outlet (on/off)
  • View the LAN/WAN IP address of connected network
  • Create/Modify scheduled resets
  • Monitor all devices that are up/down - no device limit in app
  • Device upgrade and time

For large-scale deployments the Remote Power Switches iOS/Android application saves a ton of time and is substantially easier to use than the GTalk found on the larger Two Outlet Remote IP Switch. Being able to switch individually between devices is priceless, and the peace of mind knowing that total network control is only a tap away is second to none.

Simple Setup: Right out of the box with zero setup, the Remote Power Switch comes ready to monitor and reboot a device when internet connectivity is lost. However, connecting to the free app for more control is easy. Simply load the app, click the “Connect” button on the switch, enter the switch’s ID (each switch has a unique ID, printed on the bottom of the unit) and tap “Add”. The switch can also be configured on your PC with the free Windows “Utility” software.

Setting up your switch with the free mobile app

The free utility will automatically scan a network for connected Remote Power Switches, saving time in setup. The utility makes it simple to configure advanced network settings of the switch, such as static IP addresses and port numbers. The utility can also be used for loading new firmware onto the device, as well as launching the Web GUI.

Web GUI: Although most users will opt to use the free mobile application, the Remote Power Switch has a built in graphical user interface you can access from any web browser. The same control from the app can be found here, as well as the ability to save and restore a configuration file and restore the device to factory settings. By default the WEB GUI is not password protected, but this can be enabled for added security by using the free utility software. Below you’ll find an example of the scheduling from within the local web-based admin panel:

Final Thoughts: The Single Outlet Remote Power Switch can be used in a variety of home and business applications, and the ability to monitor and manually control it with the free application makes it a must-have addition to any network. The small form factor and low cost also make the Remote Power Switch ideal for large deployments were multiple managed outlets aren’t necessary. If you business finds itself sending out technicians to power cycle equipment this managed outlet will save you a lot of time and money by doing it automatically without worrying about sending or paying a technician to do it.

The Single Outlet IP Power Switch is available now at 3Gstore for an introductory price of $69.99
