6/28/2005 Verizon Wireless, the second- largest U.S. mobile provider has signed up more than 500,000 high-speed wireless customers, its Chief Executive Denny Strigl said on Tuesday. Strigl said the service, which is costing $1 billion to build, is not yet profitable, but is off to a good start with the subscriptions. "We feel very good about it," Strigl said on the sidelines of a Yankee Group conference where he delivered a keynote speech. Verizon Wireless, a venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone , launched high-speed wireless services based on EV-DO technology in two markets in October 2003, and has since expanded to more than 50 markets.
