AirLink Communications adds EV-DO connectivity to its rugged wireless modem product lines using the Sierra Wireless EM5625 EV-DO embedded module AirLink�s next generation EV-DO products will provide pervasive wireless broadband access for fixed and mobile asset management Vancouver, British Columbia and San Diego, California - June 27, 2005 -- Sierra Wireless and AirLink Communications today announced that AirLink has selected the Sierra Wireless EM5625 embedded module to provide CDMA 1xEV-DO connectivity to AirLink�s line of intelligent, rugged wireless modems. AirLink specializes in enabling real-time, two-way communication with remote commercial assets, and previously utilized the Sierra Wireless SB555 1X embedded module in its products. AirLink will integrate the EM5625 into its Raven and PinPoint families of intelligent, rugged wireless modems, used in a broad array of mobile enterprise and industrial applications such as remote monitoring, configuration, diagnostics and control; telemetry/SCADA; public safety; and fleet tracking and management. The new AirLink EV-DO modems will feature proprietary ALEOS intelligent software � specifically designed for wireless data networking � and enabling the functionality, flexibility and performance that AirLink customers have come to expect. �The integration of the EM5625 module into our product lines enables our customers to receive even larger amounts of data more quickly and more frequently than has been possible before, opening the products up to new applications and markets,� said Justin Schmid, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Business Development for AirLink Communications. �We are pleased to work with Sierra Wireless, a proven leader in commercializing wireless wide-area networking (WWAN) technologies, to bring high speed EV-DO capability to our product lines.� �We are delighted to extend our relationship with AirLink Communications to deliver the benefits of wireless broadband connectivity to their customers,� said Dan Schieler, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales for Sierra Wireless. �With real-time access and increased data capability, AirLink�s wireless modems with the EM5625 module will enable customers to expand their asset management applications to include, for example, high-bandwidth, high-quality information such as live photos and video streams.� The dual-band Sierra Wireless EM5625 embedded module provides a powerful, reliable, wireless engine that can be integrated into a wide variety of mobile devices and offers �always-on� voice, data, and messaging functionality at typical data speeds of 400-700 kbps, with bursts up to 2.4 Mbps. Additional features of the EM5625 module include enhanced power management to optimize battery life, as well as gpsOne� capability, which complies with E911 requirements for emergency location. Sierra Wireless also offers a comprehensive suite of integration services for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), including a Universal Development Kit to simplify the integration process and accelerate time-to-market. The EM5625 complies with new European Union directives on RoHS (Restrictions on Hazardous Substances). |
