3Gstore IP Switch - "Help, Your Router Is Blocking Me!"
The 3Gstore IP Power Switch is a simple product that automatically power-cycles any device when internet connectivity to the switch is lost. The IP Switch will work with any router including those provided to end users by major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) such as AT&T or Comcast, but one setting in their router may prevent the switch from working at all.
Most routers from ISPs have built in firewalls, meant to protect from malicious activity and outside intrusion, but these built in firewalls can also block devices from functioning properly when connected to the network. The IP Switch pings external websites to check internet connectivity, and if enough of these pings fail in a row, the switch will reset. The problem here lies within the default settings of the firewalls of these routers. A common feature, "Block ICMP Ping" or "Block WAN ICMP Ping", is typically set to 'Enable' meaning the router will block the response back to the IP Switch. This means the switch can never properly manage your internet connection since a ping is never coming back to it!

Depending on your router, this feature can be found in different places, and take a variety of differnet names. 3Gstore doesn't provide support for 3rd party routers, however you can contact the ISP or manufacturer for this setting. For more users, the IP Switch works just fine with no extra configuration required, but if you are experiencing issues your routers ICMP setting may be the cause.
