Verizon BroadbandAccess Coverage Maps - Not Always Up To Date |

Don't believe everything you read (or see) on the Internet! The $64,000 question many people ask, "Can I get EVDO Coverage?". Verizon maintains a web page, where you can enter your zip code and see coverage (more info). They also maintain another site that has detailed maps of coverage for each city. Where I live, in Cary, Illinois, we got EVDO Coverage on May 26, 2005 (see original post). At that time and for the following 10 weeks, if I did a lookup at Verizon, I would see this map: ![]() ![]() It CLEARLY showed that my city WAS NOT in a BroadbandAccess (EVDO) area. It showed that I was in the NationalAccess area only. BUT, that was not true, I KNEW that I was in a broadbandaccess coveage area, my EVDO Card was saying BroadbandAccess vs NationalAccess, and the bechmarks at http://www.DSLreports.com/stest were not lying. 12 weeks after first getting EVDO, I looked again and sure enough, the maps had been updated to show that I was now in a broadbandaccess coverage area: ![]() An interesting tidbit, Verizon has more detailed maps that (even today), looks like the image below. See the town of Cary, in the top left of the Map, according to this map, I don't get coverage, even today, August 25, 2006, exactly 3 months after BroadbandAccess first showed up in Cary. ![]() Verizon is constantly expanding BroadbandAccess Coverage, and if you are close to BroadbandAccess, the maps may say one thing and reality might say something else. If you are sitting on the fence waiting for BroadbandAccess coverage to come to you, it MAY ALREADY be there for you. We do offer a 15 day trial period, you can try the Verizon card & service AND if you are not happy, cancel your contract with Verizon and return your equipment (for a full refund, minus shipping charges). Discuss this on EVDOforums. |
