Company Increases Portfolio of Intellectual Property to 28 Patents SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 2005--Novatel Wireless, Inc. (Nasdaq:NVTL - News), a leading provider of wireless broadband access solutions, today announced it has secured its twenty-eighth patent. This patent provides for a wireless radio frequency modem designed to operate in conjunction with a host device, sharing a central processing unit and memory with the host device, where principal modem functions are distributed between the modem and the host device. The patent teaches a cost-effective architecture for use in devices, such as laptops or wireless routers, which connect multiple wired and wireless computers to the Internet. Previously, Novatel Wireless announced that it had filed for several patent protections in connection with its fixed-mobile convergence technology, including its Ovation(TM) 3G Multimedia Application Console portfolio and Conversa(TM) software suite. "Novatel Wireless has placed a great deal of energy into wireless research and development activities," said Peter Leparulo, chief executive officer of Novatel Wireless. The latest patent was developed by Dr. Slim Souissi, Novatel Wireless' chief technology officer and an Edwin Armstrong Fellow of Novatel Research Labs.
