11/28/05 Update - Sprint Stores are now selling the PC5740, and the same thing is now happening to Mac users who are told the PC5740 works with the Mac, please read below. 1/13/2006 THIS JUST IN. The Verizon PC5740 is NOW fully Mac Compatible. When purchasing the PC5740 from us, we will provide you with a download link for the installer AND provide free Mac support (via Telephone and email). A few things about the PC5740 you should know. We have directions on our web site to get the card working with Mac (they are VERY technical and not geared for the average Mac user), however, there will be the following things you WILL NOT get: - see signal strength (0 - 4 bars), you will not know if you are in a coverage area OR how strong the signal is. Kind of like having a cell phone without a display, you have to dial to see if someone answers - see if you are on NationalAccess (50K - 100K download speeds) or BroadbandAccess (400K - 700K speeds) - Activate the card. You need to do this every 1 - 3 months. This updates the PRL (Preferred Roaming List) in the card. As new EVDO towers go up, your card will be invisible until you Activate/Update the PRL. You will need to insert your PC5740 in a PC every 1 -3 months to do this update. - if you have any huge technical issues, the KPC650 is the only card that Verizon can escalate in tech support - they do not officially support any other card. - Also, the PC5740 is the ONLY EVDO card that doesn't have an antenna port, so you cannot hook up a booster antenna or signal amplifier (if you ever needed too). Now, with that said, if you want to get a card that doesn't have ANY of the above restrictions and is fully supported, you should get the Kyocera KPC650. It shows signal strength, what network you are on AND can do the activation/update PRL automatically. More info is at: Kyocera KPC650 Mac OS X Software Review The Kyocera KPC650 is around $50 more then the PC5740. We charge $30 less for the KPC650 compared to Verizon stores and VerizonWireless.com (we charge $20 less for the PC5740). Here is what we recommend, return the PC5740 and completely cancel your service with Verizon (there is a 15 day trial, where you can easily do this). You do not have to cancel before ordering from us, BUT you should cancel within your 15 day trial, so that you only have one Verizon account. Order the KPC650 from us, you can get it tomorrow (We also have the same 15 day trial period, if you are not completely happy with your KPC650) AND we are the BEST place to purchase from, since we KNOW MACS and you can call us for support before calling Verizon. https://Booster-Antenna.com/verizon/ Also, we have a ton more info on our Mac EVDO page. |
