Disabling Sprint EVDO Graphic Compression |

EVDO CompressionOne of the ways that carriers allows them to squeeze more capacity in their network, is compression. They do it with voice calls and they also do it with EVDO. With Verizon, software called Venturi Compression is automatically installed on your computer and you are able to control how much compression is used OR even disable compression. With Sprint, software is not installed on your computer, instead, they use something called a Proxy. Whenever, you are connected to Sprint's EVDO network, all your requests go through a server called a Proxy (this happens automatically). Whenever, you are requesting a graphic image (jpg/gif/etc.), the proxy automatically compresses the image BEFORE it sends it to your computer. This compression can cut down the file sizes by 50% or more. The only problem, is that on some images, the compressed image may not look so good. The compressed images will load faster, but may not look so good. How to disable Sprint Graphic Compression Sprint's compression is based on which browser you are using. Each browser has a unique signature called a "browser agent", this identifies the browser and version of the browser that you are using. Sprint uses this browser signature to enable or disable the compression. All, we need to do, is change the browser signature and Sprint will no longer compress the images.
