KPC650 vs PC5740

Monday, 16 January 2006
Now that Mac Users have a choice between EVDO cards, we decided to do a benchmark comparing the two. Below are the tests comparing a PC5740 vs. KPC650 on a PowerBook 15 inch:

Insert a PC5740 into our PowerBook 15, we get 1 signal bar

We did a benchmark at DSLReports and we get 232 download / 106 upload speeds

Next, we try the Kyocera KPC650 in the same laptop, 3 minutes later. We get 3 bars.

Additional tests. Later in the day, we did another test, and received: KPC650 678 down / 115 up (4 bars). The PC5740 also now has 4 bars, but our tests show 249K down / 81 up.

The PC5740 is a good entry level EVDO card, but the KPC650 outperforms it. The KPC650 has an antenna port which allows you to add an external antenna port or signal amplifier. The PC5740 is the only card without an external antenna port.
