Cradlepoint Firmware 1.7.0 for CTR500/MBR900/MBR1000/MBR1200/CBA750/CBA250 adds Support for New Devices & Other Updates

MBR1000 and U301
Firmware 1.7.0 allows you to force 3G or 4G on a device like the U301

CradlePoint has released Firmware Version 1.7.0 that provides the MBR1200, MBR1000, MBR900, CTR500, CBA250, and CBA750 with official support more modems (including the AT&T Velocity and two T-Mobile devices), the ability for more modems to be activated within the router, and some new features.

Firmware 1.7.0 adds support for the following devices:
  • AT&T Sierra Compass 888
  • AT&T USBConnect Velocity (iCON 461)
  • T-Mobile Huawei E181 (T-Mobile webConnect USB)
  • T-Mobile Huawei E1691 (T-Mobile webConnect Jet USB)
  • Telus Huawei E182E
  • Cellcom AxxessTel MV240
  • Additional newly-added international devices can be viewed in the release notes (PDF)

This latest firmware version also provides a few new features:

  • Added ability to force 3G or 4G for dual mode WIMAX modems.
  • Added "allow remember me" check box to the tools->User login page. Allows administrator to disable the Remember Me check box so users are forced to enter their passwords. This is useful for people using the product as a public hotspot.
  • Connection verify (enabled on the Modem->Settings page) now supports WIMAX modems.
  • Added ability for the CBA250 and CBA750 to disable config/pass thru switch and force the mode through GUI

Firmware 1.7.0 also added the ability to activate or update PRL for a few new modems (read more about this feature in Tip of the Week #20):

  • Sprint Novatel U760
  • Sprint Sierra 598U
  • Sprint Novatel Merlin C777
  • Sprint Sierra Aircard 402

Finally, firmware 1.7.0 has fixed the following bugs:

  • Modified Aggressive Modem Reset to be more sensitive to environmental conditions such as when carriers automatically disconnect modems at a set time of day or after they have been attached and idle for a certain amount of time.
  • No longer uses a 2nd IP address for DNS server when using DNS relay. Previously the router would use 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 (by default) as the DNS relay addresses. Now it only uses 192.168.0.1. Using the 192.168.0.2 address was causing problems for some customers.
