Verizon iPhone4 Doesn't Support SVDO

Verizon Wireless and Apple Computer announced the iPhone4 yesterday.  The Verizon iPhone4 is identical to the AT&T, except that it is on Verizon's CDMA network.  One downside to any CDMA network, is that it can not handle voice and data simultaneously.  If you are on the phone, you cannot use the internet.  If your phone is a hotspot and a call arrives, your hotspot stops working.  This could be a pretty big deal, especially for those currently used to using the iPhone4 on AT&T, which is based on a GSM network and it CAN handle voice and data at the same time.

Back in August 2009, the CDMA Development Group understood this limitation of EVDO and created something called SVDO (S stands for Simultaneous), which allows EVDO to handle voice and data at the same time.  There was a lot of speculation that the Verizon iPhone4 would support SVDO, BUT it does not.

We are confident that Apple will come out with an LTE (4G) version of the iPhone at some point in the future, BUT this will require completely different hardware and if you are only 6 months into a 2 year contract, it is going to cost you a bunch to upgrade.
