Sprint Releases Merlin CC208 3G/4G 2-in-1 Card by Novatel Wireless

sprint merline cc208Sprint added a new device to their lineup of 3G/4G mobile broadband modems this week: the Merlin CC208 by Novatel (left). The CC208 is the first 3G/4G ExpressCard or PCMCIA device; all of Sprint's previous 3G/4G offerings have been USB or mobile hotspot devices. The CC208 itself is an ExpressCard, but it includes a "sled" that will allow it to be used in a standard PCMCIA card slot. Since most computer and router manufacturers have been phasing out ExpressCard and PCMCIA slots on their hardware for the past several years, the CC208 is unlikely to appeal to most users - the majority of 3G/4G users prefer USB modems, which are compatible with nearly every modern computer and operating system; hotspots are also gaining in popularity as they allow multiple WiFi-enabled devices to share the connection - users that do prefer an ExpressCard or PCMCIA device will now have an option for Sprint 3G/4G.
