Sprint Attacked by CWA for Opposing AT&T, T-Mobile Merger

The CWA (Communications Workers of America) have supported the potential $39 billion merger between AT&T and T-Mobile since it was originally announced. Sprint has taken the opposite approach and called AT&T out on their plans and the CWA isn't happy with Sprint. They've launched a website called "Eye On Sprint", which is aimed at debunking the claims that Sprint is making about the proposed merger. "The company is opposing it for its own self-interest, not the public interest. Sprint wanted to acquire T-Mobile, but T-Mobile recognized that AT&T was a better fit, and now Sprint will say anything to stop the merger from moving forward." according to the website.

Sprint spokesman John Taylor wouldn't comment on the websites speculation about the company's own interest in the merger. He said that the union is “seeking to distract attention away from the actual issue at hand” that the AT&T deal would lead to fewer consumer choices and higher prices. “CWA’s claims are not only beside the point but, more importantly, they are inaccurate,” in an interview. Earlier this week the DOJ filed an antitrust lawsuit seeking to block AT&T's $39 billion merger with T-Mobile. So, Sprint isn't alone thinking this deal is a bad idea, and other companies like MetroPCS, Leap Wireless and Dish Network are opposing this merger.
