AT&T to Officially Launch LTE Sunday, Sept. 18

AT&T CFO John Stephens announced they'll be launching five LTE markets on Sept. 18, in an appearance at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Entertainment & Communications conference. The service will be officially available in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, and the company anticipates covering 70 million POPs in 15 markets by year-end. They currently offer two LTE capable devices, the USB Connect Momentum 4G and Mobile Hotspot Elevate 4G. The devices will be available for $49.99 and $69.99 after a $50 mail in rebate with a new 2/yr commitment.

This will be exciting news for AT&T customers, but puts them far behind Verizon who offers LTE in over 125 markets currently. In fact, Verizon announced another round of 4G LTE launches in 26 markets today, which makes AT&T's news of 5 markets a bit lackluster. Both of the providers do offer competitive pricing at $50/mo for 5GB of data or $80/mo for 10GB of data. Tell us in the comments below what you think about AT&T's LTE announcement!
