Kindle Fire Tablet Announced by Amazon, $199 Targets iPad Users

After the original Kindle, Amazon is now targeting the iPad crowd with the recently announced Kindle Fire 7" tablet. The tablet will carry a price tag of $199 putting it $300 below what the entry level iPad costs, and offers WiFi connectivity, but doesn't include any 3G support yet. In addition to lacking 3G you don't get a camera or microphone, but you do get a 30-day trial to Amazon Prime, which typically costs $79/yr and offers services like video streaming. Their CEO Jeff Bezos indicated that there will be other models released in the future like the Kindle Touch priced at $99, and a 3G-capable version priced at $149.

The Kindle Fire will feature a 7" IPS display, dual-core processor and weigh in at 14.6 ounces. There will be a central hub allowing users to integrate Amazon Kindle, Prime, Instant Video, MP3, Appstore and Web Services on the single platform. You can also take advantage of their cloud storage services to backup your content via wireless in the background. For users looking for a cheap tablet solution that doesn't include all the bells and whistles the Kindle Fire may end up being the perfect solution for you.
