Configure Pepwave Surf Mini with Overdrive Pro for Inbound Remote Access

The Problem: We've noticed that customers seem to have some difficulty configuring inbound remote access for their Pepwave Surf Mini or Pepwave Surf 400 access points. If you plan to use these products to access things like a security camera DVR, IP camera etc. you need to configure these settings or else the device won't communicate properly.

The Solution: Your Mobile Hotspot has a management portal found at a specified IP address. In the case of the Sprint Overdrive/Pro that IP address is: You can follow the steps outlined below to connect your hotspot and configure the Pepwave Surf Mini/400 for Inbound Remote Access.

Mobile Hotspot Configuration Part 1:

  1. Connect your Mobile Hotspot to your computer via WiFi
  2. Open a web browser and enter (if using another model use ipconfig to determine your gateway)
  3. The default password is "password" all lowercase
  4. On the screen select the "Advanced Settings Tab", navigate to "Router" and select "Basic" settings
  5. Click on Enable DMZ and save the settings
  6. Click on the Tab marked "Router", select DMZ and change setting to source IP address and click save
  7. Navigate back to "Advanced Settings" -> "Router" -> "Basic" and click "Enable" next to "Port Forwarding" (location may vary based on mobile hotspot)
  8. Select TCP, UDP or both if unsure and save the settings

Pepwave Surf Mini Configuration Part 2:

  1. Connect your Pepwave Surf Mini via Ethernet, open a web browser and enter
  2. Go to the "Firmware" tab and click on the "Advanced Config" button
  3. Under the "DHCP Server" section click on "Disable"
  4. Click on "Save" at the bottom of the page
  5. Scroll to the top of the page click on "Connect" and click "Connect" again when taken back to the main screen
  6. Allow 30-60 seconds for Pepwave to connect to your Mobile Hotspot

Our Advice: If you plan to do a remote configuration you must make these setting changes in order for it to function correctly. If these changes aren't made, you won't be able to get into the device remotely no matter what ports you open on the Pepwave because the Overdrive Pro hasn't been configured yet. Please Note - If you have a Verizon MiFi 4510L or Samsung SCH-LC11 you can't configure port forwarding because Verizon doesn't allow inbound traffic on their 4G LTE network.
