AT&T's Secondary Plan With T-Mobile

Instead of AT&T physically buying T-Mobile out, they're now discussing an alternative options like forming a joint venture to pool assets between the two carriers, if the initial deal falls through. This plan isn't fully developed and won't be a consideration unless the planned $39 billion purchase of T-Mobile fails. AT&T is currently facing heat from the DOJ, carriers like Sprint and other parties that are against the merger. If a joint venture occurred it would help solve some of the wireless-capacity constraints both companies will face in the coming years. AT&T currently has 101 million subscribers and T-Mobile has 33.7 million subscribers so joining forces could benefit close to 135 million wireless subscribers.
