Family Data Plans Coming to Verizon in 2012

According to Verizon Communications CEO Lowell McAdam, Verizon Wireless plans to offer data plans for multiple devices sometime in 2012. McAdam said customers that deal with four to five smartphones, tablets and USB modems don't want to pay for all those devices on a separate bill and ""I think in 2012 we will see it". This statement was made at the UBS Global Media and Communications conference and "We have been working on this for a couple of years. Getting to one bill and getting to account-level pricing is our goal."

McAdam wouldn't indicate specifically how the plans would work, but we also know executives from AT&T mobility and Sprint Nextel have hinted about such data plans too. As of now most carriers offer the ability to share voice minutes across multiple phones, but separate the data usage per device costing customers more. If the carriers implement pooled or shared family data plans this would allow multiple users and devices to share from one larger shared data plan. This could save customers with multiple lines quite a bit of money if all their devices don't require a large data plan.
