iOS 5.1 Apple gives iPhone 4S 4G Icon

When Apple initially launched the iPhone 4S they used a 3G icon on AT&T, while AT&T wanted a 4G branded icon for their 4G HSPA+ network. The term 4G has been long debated and AT&T added to the confusion when they referred to HSPA+ as 4G, not true 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution). In yesterday's iOS 5.1 update AT&T users will now get an indicator when they're in an upgraded market. When you see this icon you should expect faster speeds and when the new iPad is available on March 16th, you should see a 4G LTE icon when in a true next generation network.

So, this is very misleading as no hardward changed.  You are not getting 4G LTE speeds.  It is strictly a marketing ploy by AT&T to call a "faster then 3G" but "slower then 4G" 4G.   Your iPhone 4S' 4G Icon doesn't indiate your iPhone is now 4G.

The iPhone 4S DOES NOT have 4G hardware inside, only 3G.  AT&T has convinced Apple to label HSPA+ as 4G when it really isn't
