Verizon Announces New Plans for 'LTE Broadcast'

Here we are in the new year and we're already seeing new strides being made in mobile technology. Among other plans, Verizon made an announcement at this week's CES that they are working on a new service called 'LTE Broadcast.' This service is based on 'evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS) standards approved by 3GPP' that allow 'for a very efficient use of the LTE spectrum and network.' Verizon gave examples of this service, saying this would allow students to watch video lectures or for sports teams to provide 'exclusive content to their fans who attend live events.' Unfortunately, Verizon hasn't added much more than that at this time, but are giving CES guests a demonstration of how the technology works.
