How Much Data Are Your Apps Really Using?

If you’re like most people these days who rely on their smartphone for just about everything, this one’s for you! Whether you have a dozen apps, or more like 50, it’s probably quite important to you that you don’t go over your data limit each month. Of course, most carriers offer an unlimited data plan for phones, some of us are still stuck with only 2-5GB/month.

Perhaps you don’t use your apps very often, you may not think you’re using much data. Well, you’re probably wrong. What most don’t consider, is what it takes to update those apps - something that usually happens in the background, unbeknownst to you.

Regarding the iPhone specifically, starting with iOS 7, your apps will update over cellular by default. To avoid going over your limit for something like this on your iPhone, simply go to: Settings -> Cellular -> Switch the app setting to OFF. Just see for yourself how much data one of us used (793mb) before turning this off!

For Android, simply open the Google Play store, then go to: Menu -> Settings -> Auto Update Apps -> Select Auto-update apps over cellular only.
