Reduce Data Usage via the Google Chrome App

With audio and video integration that sometimes plays automatically on so many websites these days, it’s sometimes hard to control the amount of data you may be using on your smartphone or other mobile devices. Luckily, for those who use the Google Chrome app - whether on your iOS or Android device - you’ve got a new feature that helps you to reduce data usage. The feature reroutes non-SSL or Incognito Web browsing through Google's servers to compress the pages, resulting in less data being transmitted to and from your mobile device.

The steps to enable this feature (it’s disabled by default) are the same for iOS and Android. Simply open the current version of the app -> navigate to the settings section -> select the Bandwidth/ Bandwidth Management option -> select Reduce Data Usage -> move the switch to ON

Once enabled and working, you’ll be able to see statistics on how much data you’ve saved! However, it will not differentiate between cellular data and WiFi. And if you don’t want your web traffic going through Google’s servers, just follow the same steps above to ensure the feature is disabled.
