Verizon Credits for Mirai Trojan Malware Usage

Last month we wrote about the Mirai Malware affecting certain Sierra Wireless devices as well as the steps you could take to avoid this attack. Today, Verizon has released information to certain customers regarding this attack and data usage.

Take action now
to secure your device

Certain subscribers with a Sierra Wireless Raven XE/XT, LS300, GX400, GX440, GX450, ES450, RV50 or MP70 device may have seen an increase in billable data traffic, which may be attributed to "Mirai Trojan" (malware). Your account has been identified as having at least one of these devices on the Verizon network.

To address this matter, certain billable charges accrued between 9/8/2016 and 12/31/2016 will be credited no later than your March invoice. You must reboot and change your password by 12/31/2016 to prevent further unauthorized usage and/or data charges. Instructions are provided by Sierra Wireless:

Since you are responsible for changing your password(s), no additional usage credits will be issued by Verizon beyond 12/31/16.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your Verizon Sales Representative.
