Digi International and Kyocera Wireless Team up for Three New Wireless Gateway/Router Products

Digi Connect WAN, Digi Connect RG and Digi Connect VPN Make Seamless, Always-On Enterprise Communication Easy and Cost Effective

SAN DIEGO & MINNETONKA, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 15, 2006--Kyocera Wireless Corp., a leading global manufacturer of CDMA wireless handsets and devices, and Digi International (NASDAQ:DGII - News), a leading supplier of device networking technology, today announced a family of Ethernet-to-wireless gateway/router products that utilize CDMA technology and the award-winning Kyocera 200 module to enable cost-effective, always-on, wireless networking and secure communication capabilities. The new products, the Digi Connect WAN (wide area network), Digi Connect WAN Remote Gateway (RG) and Digi Connect WAN VPN (virtual private network), have been approved for use with two of the largest CDMA wireless carriers in North America.

The new family of Digi Connect WAN products utilizes CDMA technology to create cost-effective alternatives to wireline networks as well as wireless backup to traditional landline networks. Offering more than a basic wireless modem, the new Digi Connect products include routing, firewall and virtual private network (VPN) features with unique Digi SureLink technology for always-on, real-time connections.

"The Kyocera 200 Module integration provides users with the ability to remotely process more data at higher speeds than GSM, which brings a new level of functionality to Digi International's highly regarded product line," said Dean Fledderjohn, general manager of the M2M division at Kyocera Wireless Corp. "These products are easy to install and easy to use, ultimately saving time and money for enterprises that need to monitor, track, report and repair remote equipment."

"Kyocera Wireless brings a cost-effective, high-speed wireless communications solution that is easy to integrate for a variety of software and equipment across many different industries," said Steve Ericson, director, product management, Digi International. "Our customers get real-time communication ability from virtually anywhere, and the wireless service providers get a product that uses the CDMA network efficiently and to its full advantage. Our collaboration is a win for everyone."

Digi Connect WAN CDMA products are ideal for applications where it's necessary to bypass a customer's network in order to service equipment, or in remote offices and locations where traditional landline networked equipment is not available or cost prohibitive. For instance, by implementing Digi Connect RG, a serial-to-cellular gateway, technicians in industries such as utilities can bypass an organization's network and gain instant access to remote metering equipment and troubleshoot device problems in real time, without having to travel to the remote site for costly on-site repairs.

For banking and finance, Digi Connect VPN creates a secure virtual private network via the CDMA cellular network, providing private and protected data transmission for sensitive, mission-critical applications such as ATMs and credit card equipment. In addition, it creates a static IP connection to a remote site, which enables the host to easily communicate with the remote device while communicating across different network areas and carrier networks and regardless of IP address changes.

Utilities and banking are only two of the industries that benefit from the Digi Connect CDMA wireless advantage. Other industries include: medical, retail/point-of-sale, financial services, trucking/transportation, building automation and security, traffic management, industrial automation, government projects, and IT.
